Trip to the zoo

Tuesday after my husband was finished writing his SAIT final exam (just in case you wanted to know he got 86%, he is so smart) we went to the zoo with his Mother and youngest sister. For those of you who are not from Calgary or have some how missed the big news but the penguins have joined the Calgary zoo family. I can not tell you how excited I was to go and see them. I just love penguins, I think they are just so cute. I loved Happy feet and parts of March of the penguins made me cry. I'm not exactly sure why but I have the biggest soft spot in my heart for them.

When we got to the zoo there was a huge line for the penguins. It was so long that Mike started talking about not seeing the penguins!!! I couldn't believe it, that was just crazy talk.  I was so excited to see those cute little guys that I happily waited in line for an hour and five minutes.

Let me tell you it was worth the wait, every minute of it. The new building they have for them is amazing. You get so close to them, so close in fact you could reach out and touch them. The zoo keepers tell you not to because they bite but it was tempting. We were only allowed to stay for 15 minutes, I could have stayed there for hours. They were so fun to watch, they were swimming and splashing about. It was fantastic.  After I tried to convince everyone that we should wait in line and see them again but for some reason they won't go for it.

Up-cycle Hoodie

Once again thanks to Pinterest I found a wonderfully easy sewing project I could do. The best part is that it worked out this time!

I got the tutorial from see kate sew. I think that she did a great job at giving a step by step tutorial. There was one or two things that I didn't really understand and I had to look up but I think that had more to do with me being new to sewing then her explaining it.

Like I said before I'm really pleased with how it turned out and I would really suggest that if any of you have a big old hoodie laying around you need to give this a try. Or you could give them to me and I could make another one !

I'm not going to show a step by step because see kate sew already did a great one.

Just before and after shots.

As you can see I took one old my husband's old hoodies.
He no longer wears it because I may or may not have shrunk it a little bit in the wash.

Before

And now it is way cuter! And I just love the buttons! It still is a little bit on the baggy side but I really like my hoodies that way so I didn't take it in as much as one could have. It's not perfect, I defiantly made one or two mistakes but  overall I'm really happy with how it turned out.

After
For fun I thought I would add this random picture of Mike after he let me
try to straighten his hair. I think his hair needs to be just a little bit longer for it to really work.

Lady of Luxury

Over the past few days I have been on a little "Staycation".
Wanting to taking full advantage of this time, I spoiled myself in some girly delights.

First a trip to the spa where I got a manicure and pedicure.
The place that I went to was really lovely and the chairs were massaging. I was in heaven!

Then it was off to the hair salon to tame my wild mane.
I always wait too long in between each hair cut. My ends were just a mess!
But now everything is all pretty again.

I wish everyday I could be a Lady of Luxury............
oh well I can't wait till I can do this again next year.

Family Visit

My lovely family came down for a visit, which is always fun. We didn't really do anything to special mostly just hanging and relaxing. But who doesn't love that! Here's a over view of some of the things we did via my iPhone.

Can you not just feel the good times :)
One other thing that we did which I really loved. My family helped me a lot with my picture of the day project. One night we had a friendly contest to see who would get to be my picture of the day.
Well here are the runner ups.

All great but there could only be one winner...........go here to see the winner.
It will be Day 43's picture.

Two Valentine's Day Crafts

Happy Valentine's Day!! Today I thought I would share the two crafts I did in honor of this day.
First off let me say that yes I was inspired by pictures found on Pinterest, go here and here to see.

The first one, my I "heart" U bottles. Overall I would have to say that this was a pretty simple project and I really think anyone could do it.
So here are the things you are going to need:
  • Glass Bottles
  • Twine (or some type of string)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Paint
  • Brush
Please note that in the picture you will see some spray adhesive that I thought would be helpful around the neck of the bottle but it wasn't so don't brother with it

The first thing is to wrap the twine around the bottle. I found it was much easier to start at the bottom of the bottle and work your way up. Another helpful tip is that you should glue the first wrap all the way around to make sure it stays in place. After that you don't need to use the glue every time around. Although I have to say that I would place a dot of glue mid wrap, every 3rd or 4th time around just to insure that everything was staying tight and together.

Step One

I ended up using more glue around the neck of the bottle
to make sure everything stayed in place.
Then one TV show later I was done! Well that part anyway.

Step One All Done

Now it was time to paint. I kept it pretty simple and just painted, I "heart" U. But really depending on how many bottles you had, you could do anything you wanted.

Step Two
Then believe it or not your all done! Like I said pretty simple.
All Done
It turned out pretty good if I do say so myself :)

The next project I did is also pretty simple yet it was more time consuming. Sadly I didn't take any step by step pictures. Good thing its pretty easy to describe.

You will need: 4 canvases, Hot glue gun and LOTS of Buttons.

First thing I did was in pencil I drew the outline of each letter on one of the canvases. Then I arranged the buttons till I thought it looked okay and then using the hot glue gun I glued all the buttons down.

And two days later I was all done.

In the end I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I just love buttons and I just love LOVE!
