Animal Baby Blanket

In April I gained a new little nephew, and he is the cutest nephew ever! Before he was born I was determined that I was going to make his baby gift. I really had no clue what to make, I did a lot searching on Google and Pinterest but I didn't really find anything. The tricky part was that I had to find something that I thought was super cute and that was super easy to make as I'm pretty new to the whole sewing thing.

The light bulb went off for me when I was over at a friend's house. I saw her nephew's blanket with the little stuffed animal attached to it and  I just thought it was the cutest thing ever! Plus it looked fairly easy to do.

My friend explained how to make it and then I pretty much went straight out and bought the materials.

This is what I used;

  • One very cute and cuddle stuffed animal
  • Two different colors of minky fabric (you don't have to have two colors)
Now you ask how much I got a yard of each but you really could make it as big or as small as you would like.

And of course you will need;
  • A sewing machine
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Pins

The cute stuffy and minky
Step One
Cut the two minky colors to the same size.

Step Two
Kill the stuffed animal Cut the stuffy in half and remove most if not all of the stuffing.
I know you may think I'm crazy to admit this but cutting this little guy in half was really hard!
Just look at his sweet little face.

 Step Three
Sew each of the halves together.

 Step Four
With the right sides faceing together pin the sides together.
Okay I might have pinned it a little too much,
you might not have to use as many pins as I did.

Don't forget to pin our little stuffy to opposite corners of the blanket.
Make sure you have them facing the same way so when you turn the
blanket right side out you don't end up with a tail where a tummy should be.

 Step Five

Now I didn't take a picture of this step but it's all sewing.
Sew all the way around the blanket BUT make sure to leave a hole where you can turn it right side out.

Once you have turned it right side out. Sew all the way around again.
This makes a nice and simple edge to the blanket.

And that's it your done!

Isn't it just so cute!

Now it's my moment to brag, just a little of course. When I went over to see  my little nephew my Sister-in-Law informed me that this was one of their favorite blankets because it was just so soft, nice and big and super cute! She also told me this horribly funny story. So her and the baby were taking a ride on an elevator with some  teenage girls. Now these girls made some wonderful comments on how cute the blanket was BUT said nothing about the baby! My poor Sister-in-law, she said all she was thinking was "What about my baby!!!" Not bad for my first homemade baby blanket! However I would like to go on  record as stating that as cute as I think this blanket is, my little nephew is a BILLION times cuter.
