Pinterest Recipe Review Slow Cooker Edition

Like I promised here are my reviews for the slow cooker recipes found off of Pinterest

Slow Cooker BBQ Sliders
Found HERE

I made this dish for a potluck at work and I didn't bring a drop home, so you you it was good. The aroma this gave off was so enticing. I'm sure this would be a hit at any potluck.

Slow Cooker Coconut Ginger Chicken

To quote Mike "It tasted very healthy" aka it was a little bit bland, I think that was due to all the coconut milk it calls for. I will defiantly make this again but next time I will play around with it. I think I will add less coconut milk and more of the ginger and spices it calls for.

Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken
Found HERE

This one was a major success. This is meal where you really want to savor every bite because it is just so delicious. The honey was not over powering but gave it just a gentle touch of sweetness. Mike went on and on about how much he loved it. He even showed his love by eating two huge plate fulls. Personally I think this is one of the best slow cooker meals I have made.

Slow Cooker Santa fe Chicken

This recipe is a nice way to spicy things up in the chicken dinner department. It is a really simple recipe, in which you have the freedom to adjust the seasoning to your own taste. I added a bunch of different veggies then it calls for but I'm always trying to "trick" Mike into eating more veggies then he normally would. This really is a delightful healthy and tasty meal for anyone.

Slow Cooker Thai Peanut Chicken

Sadly this recipe did not go over as well as I thought it would. When I combined the soy sauce and peanut butter the smell seem to bother me and I just could not get past it. The texture also didn't go over to well. I feel kind of bad for not liking it because when I read over the comments of other people who made it, they seem to rave about how good it was. If you have made this or something similar and enjoyed it, I would love to hear how you made it.

Slow Cooker Bolognese Sauce

First off I would like to state that this is not as good as my Mother-in-Law's bolognese sauce but pretty darn close. This recipe make your taste buds dance. Now I get a little depressed when I make pasta and due to time/laziness use sauce from a jar and it just is never as good. There were only two things were I didn't follow the recipe. First I used white grape juice instead of white wine and a didn't use nutmeg just because I didn't have any.

I give this recipe 4 1/2 out of 5 pins, just because like I said its not as good as my Mother-in-Law's.

I hope you have found this somewhat helpful. I would like to hear of you wonderful Pinterest finds.

Another Pinterest Recipe Reveiw

It has been a while since my last Pinterest Recipe Review, so I thought it was about time that I did another one. I'm going to divided the recipes into two blogs this one and then one with just the slow cooker recipes.

The first one up is a lovely summer drink, Homemade Strawberry Lemonade.
Found Here
Source  http://laylita.com
I loved this drink it is wonderful on a hot summer day, even on a rainy summer day it would be lovely. It's light and refreshing and I loved the fact that you get to blend the whole lemon. The only down side is that you really have to strain it a lot. Also I added a lot more water then it calls for, but I don't think it takes away anything from the taste. I would defiantly recommend that everyone should make this delightful drink, anytime of the year.

Let's move on to the casserole meals, I make a lot of casseroles so the list is long.

Sour cream Rice Bake.
Found HERE
Source  http://bunsinmyoven.com
I have nothing but good things to say about this casserole. I thought it was so yummy and very filling, it definitely falls into the comfort food category. This one also got Mike's approval so you know it  isn't that bad.

I think casseroles and comfort food really go hand and hand.
This Cheese Potato and Smoked Sausage fully lives up to that statement.

Find the recipe HERE

The night I made this Mike walked into the house and loudly proclaimed "Yes!" He went on to say that he could smell the sausage when he was walking to the house and he thought to himself "That better be my dinner!" And it did not disappoint,  maybe because it had two of the things that I love most in it sausages and cheese. This will be made again.

Chicken Cordon Bleu Casseroles

This was a enjoyable twist on the regular old chicken casserole. The best part is it tasted like chicken cordon bleu but was way easier to make.

Let's move on to salads;

First up the Chicken BLT Taco Salad.
Found HERE
Chicken BLT Taco Salad
Source  http://www.bettycrocker.com
I made this just the other night and I thought it was a big hit. I didn't add the avocado or the taco chips other then that I followed the recipe pretty closely. The thing that I thought made it different from a plain old salad was the dressing, mixing salsa and french dressing was really good. I did have my doubts, but I loved it. I would have never thought of mixing those two things together but it was amazing. Worth a try for everyone.

Chipotle Chicken Taco Salad
Recipe HERE

This was another wonderful summer salad that I enjoyed very much. The chipotle gives it a nice little kick to it. The only thing with this salad is that it does not keep well. So keep that in mind for how much you make.

I tired making another vegetarian meal but this time I did not tell Mike that it had no meat, and I think that was a better way then just telling him out right. It was a vegetation quinoa chill.
 Found HERE
Source  http://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com
You will have a lot of leftovers from this recipe which is great because it taste better day after day.
I ate this for lunch for just about a week and loved it. With the spices that it calls for the chill has a very full flavour. The nice thing about any chill you can always play with the spices to fancy your own taste buds. The only thing I would do different next time is add more quinoa.

Creamy Bacon Carbon
Found HERE
Bacon & Chicken Alfredo Pasta. My favorite meal!
Source  http://www.justgetoffyourbuttandbake.com
I love this meal. I have made it a few times now and Mike and I seem to enjoy it more and more each time. The bacon gives everything a most delightful flavour. It has such a heavenly creamy texture, it is just a dream. Like she says in the recipe don't cook the sauce on high heat or you will have scramble eggs, I may or may not be speaking from experience

Beef Cheesy Stuffed Bake Potatoes
Found HERE
Source  http://nutmegnotebook.com
This has quickly become a favorite meal for Mike and I. Thanks to the cheese and sour cream the potatoes have a very creamy and fluffy texture. I found a little trick that makes this meal even easier to make, and that is by cooking the bake potatoes in the slow cooker, that way by the time I get home from work they are all ready to go.

Meatloaf in a Muffin Pan
Found HERE
Make meatloaf in a muffin pan- it cooks in 15 minutes! (Thank you Rachel Ray). Then top with mashed potatoes

I have to thank Rachael Ray for this great meatloaf recipe.  Sadly I added a few too many veggies which made it a little more mushy then I would have liked but that was my mistake not the recipe.

Egg Muffins
Go HERE
Egg Muffins
Source  http://www.kalynskitchen.com
I made these this morning for breakfast, it was so quick and easy which is always great when it comes to making breakfast. I found these quite delicious and I'm so excited that I have leftover for tomorrow morning

I hope you found that helpful, if you have any wonderful recipes that you found on pinterest or any where else I would love to hear about them.

Stay tuned for the slow cooker recipes review.

Weekend Away

This weekend Mike and I gave ourselves a four day long weekend in honor of our two year anniversary. We went to Waterton Nation Park, which is where we got married. This trip was our first time back since our wedding day. I just loved going back there, Waterton is such a majestic park and much more peaceful compared to Banff or Jasper. It really is a place that everyone must visit.

We set up camp at the Crandell campsite, which was a great campsite. It is set in a beautiful location with trees all around, you also have the mountain all around and something that was kind of fun is that there are deer running all around the site. It was the first I had seen a deer in a full run that close, I was in complete awe.

Mike's handy work

Yes, he used duck tape!
At this point Mike wanted me to state that his duck tape rope
worked perfectly, the whole weekend long!
This is how we start fires.

Enjoying the fruits of his labour
Our first day there we mostly walked around Waterton reminiscing about our wedding day. I will spare you all the mushy gushy details but it was wonderful going back to the spot where Mike and I were made husband and wife. I really enjoyed going over that day where I made the best decision of my life.

Awe, so cute!
Our first day there was also the day that we had the best wildlife sightings. We saw four bears! Yes, that's right I said FOUR bears. I can hardly believing it myself. The funny thing is that the whole trip down  Mike kept talking about how he was looking forward to seeing a bear again and in my mind I kept thinking "I doubt we'll see one, it doesn't happen every time we visit" Well boy did he prove me wrong. Our first sighting was two bears together in the middle of making a baby bear, the next bear we saw was on our way to our campsite and then the last sighting was back closer to town where the bear was just walking around on a hill just hanging out. I really could not get over the fact that we saw that many bears. I talked of nothing else for the rest of the day. Although I should state that I really think that the last bear we saw was the male bear we saw earlier that day with the female. Either way it was pretty amazing.

Day number two we had some rain but during the moments that Mother Nature decided to stop crying we were able to visit Red Rock Canyon and  Blakiston Falls. Fun fact this was the spot that Mike and I had originally picked out to have our ceremony but due to construction we couldn't have it there. Oh well I really think it worked out for the best. Driftwood beach was a brilliant location.

Blakiston Falls
Our third day brought us the best weather, not too hot and not too cold but just right. This was also the day we did what Mike had been waiting for the whole trip, a canoe trip around Cameron Lake. Where at the far side of the lake one gets a quick passport free visit to the United States of America. It took us about 3 hours to go around the whole lake but I think that was mostly due to my lack of paddling and also me wanting to take a million pictures along the way. Mike was really good about the whole picture taking thing, he even would loving follow my directions on where to position the canoe so I could get in the perfect picture taking spot. Our lovely fur babies seem to enjoy the ride as well, although Beast did take a little longer to warm up to the whole idea.

Cameron Lake

After our boat ride I made Mike pose for a million more pictures at some of Waterton's hot spots. He was such a good sport about it all never complained once.

Cameron Falls
For our finally day of holidays we decided that we would just pack up and go home in the morning and spend that rest of the day enjoying the luxuries of our home. Also known as blogging for me and for Mike re-watching the latest session of Top Gear. I was also really wanting to rid myself of the layers of dirt I had built up over the past few days.

I really did have a outstanding time, it makes me wish that we took more time off, but on the positive note it means that this will be a really short work week.

Well if you made it this far, Thank you so much for reading.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend as well.

Vases and Pillows

I thought I would share two projects that I made in the last month or so. And yes they were both inspired from Pinterest. No, I don't have a pinterest problem, I could stop pinning anytime I wanted..... I just don't want to.

The first project was painting some glass vases. It was a really simple craft. HERE is the tutorial. I didn't do or use exactly what she did but pretty darn close.

I think they turned out rather well. One of the best things about this project was how super cheap  it turned out to be. I bought the vases at a garage sale for under a dollar and I already had the paint! Now I just need to figure out something nice to put in them.

The next project I did was with a crafting group I joined. It was making some stencil pillows. Again it was a pretty simple, the only thing with this one was that it took a lot more time. In the end I think it was well worth. Go HERE to see the tutorial.

I was feeling very romantic due to the fact that this month we will be celebrating our Second Year Anniversary. So on the pillows I wrote out our wedding vows. Again I'm so happy with how they turned out.

Keeping Cool

I feel like summer has finally delivered her marvelous sizzling rays upon us, it only happens for a few glorious months. (if that) So I try to enjoy every moment of it. Even when I'm driving in the car, I like to have the windows down so I feel like I'm on vacation with the heat and the wind blowing in my hair . I reminisce about the hot tropical places I have had the good fortune of visiting. Like Mexico, Nicaragua and all the wonderful Island on our honeymoon cruise. I love every minute of it.

Nicaragua

Honeymoon
BUT...... at night I like sleeping a little bit on the cool side. Even in the middle of winter I will have my feet uncovered so I feel the cool air just a little bit. One can see the problem that occurs with this sultry weather. But I have come up with the most amazing solution, I was inspired by an oven type thing that we have at work to warm up blankets for patients and my husband who stuck his head in the freezer to cool off. When I witnessed him do that the light bulb went off!

 My Blanket in the FREEZER!
It was pure genius and absolutely delightful when I went to bed last night.

Now yes, I'm sure that there were smarter people then me who thought of this idea many summers ago but for today only I will bask in my moment of brilliance.

I would love to hear other cleaver ideas on how to keep cool.
Feel free to share.

A Yorkie Tale

Hi I'm Yorkie

I thought that I would take over the Female Fisher's blog and tell you about our adventure today. The two legged Fishers decided that it would be fun to go for a hike. When we first got there the fur-less ones almost chickened out of the whole thing just because of a little wind. I don't know what the big deal was, Beast and I were smart enough to bring our coats, I don't know why they couldn't have done the same. Once they finally freed me from the four wheeled dungeon things were really great! All the wonderful things to smells, things to eat, and creatures to chase. I was in heaven!

We walked and walked some more till we got to the waterfall. The female Fisher got her clicker box out and made a million clicking sounds, I liked the waterfall and everything but I was ready to move on long before she was.

Jewell Falls
In fact I heard something while at the waterfall, don't worry I scared the Monster away with my bloodcurdling barks. I'm sure it was Big Foot... it might have been a chipmunk...... or maybe just the wind but I'm pretty sure it was Big Foot. Thanks to me, the only scary things we saw were some two legged ones whirling down the mountain on some two wheeled torcher devise.

We finally made it to the top and I have to admit that the view was quite striking

The only downside was that we had to defend our food from the evil creatures that lived within the rocks.
I really wish I could have chased it around for a bit but for some reason the two legged ones won't let me.

At the end of our long walk I had the best time playing in the water. I really am the best swimmer ever..... as long as the two legged ones don't throw the stick too far

It was a pretty nice day, now I think it is time for a nice long nap.
xoxo Yorkie
